New Power for European Transport is the main topic of the last issue of The Czech Business Today. End of April, CEBRE – Czech Business Representation to the EU organized a business breakfast titled “What Power for Future Mobility?” Participants discussed the C02 emissions reduction in automotive sector an the need for better cooperation on common guidelines and standards in electrification of transport as well as support of R&D investment and financial incentives. Another important topic of the new CBT issue is the origin marking so called “Made In”. The EU is considering, whether to impose an obligatory origin marking on products imported into the EU. On the first page you will also find a regular column of News flash. The second page of CBT continues with both topics mentioned above and an article titled “Rules for EU ETS” (Emission Trading Scheme). You will also find CEBRE calendar which informs you about many interesting events in Brussels and Prague.
The EU reduction targets for CO2 emissions set for 2012 and 2020 are putting the automotive sector under constant pressure. These targets have already been set for Passenger Vehicles and are now being discussed for Light Commercial Vehicles. This leads the automotive sector to look for new alternatives. An answer can be partially provided by electric vehicles. Numerous projects on electric transport in Europe are already in progress and by 2030 the majority of new vehicles produced could be electric. However, the development must be coordinated at all levels.
European Commission proposed a Regulation on the indication of the country of origin of certain products imported from third countries which is also known as “Made In”. It would avoid misguided information about the country of origin, increase the transparency and provide better information for European consumers (but also producers) who, in principle, prefer familiar local products in which they have confidence. CEBRE – Czech Business Representation to the EU with the cooperation with BusinessInfo.cz carried out the survey on this topic. According this survey 95% of Czech Businesses support obligatory origin marking on specific products imported into the EU.
All industries emitting greenhouse gases welcomed a long awaiting Commission's proposal for an auctioning regulation concerning the timing, administration and other aspects of auctioning CO2 allowances under the EU ETS. This regulation results from amended directive 2003/87/EC and should be adopted through the comitology procedure by 30 June 2010.
