"How are you doing? - SMEs in a larger Europe"

On 7 May 2009, BUSINESSEUROPE organised its SME event in Brussels as a part of the first European SME Week. Arndt Kirchhoff, Chairman of BUSINESSEUROPE’s Entrepreneurship & SME Committee, emphasised that European SMEs are the key actors in a swift and successful economic recovery. However, to release their huge potential, decisive policy action is necessary. Together with Commission’s Vice-President Günter Verheugen, European and national policy-makers and representatives of entrepreneurs, the participants discussed ways to stimulate entrepreneurship in Europe and measures that would enable SMEs to succeed better in the internal market. The Czech Republic was represented the Mr. Josef Lat, Chairman of the board Benes a Lat a.s., who questioned the possible ways how to fight national protectionalist measures and also asked vice-president Verheugen about his view of EU on the environmental policy and its negative impact on SMEs.
