On the 5th November from 8:30 to 10:00am, CEBRE organised in cooperation with the Czech Permanent Representation to the EU a business breakfast titled “Greening transport in Europe”, which was held in pleasant premises of the Czech Center in Brussels (Czech House, 60, Rue du Trône, Brusel).
In June 2008, the European Commission released the Greening transport package with the view to render the transport in Europe environment-friendly. The package provides a general framework of ”green“ provisions and makes a proposal to modify the “Eurovignette” Directive on charging heavy goods vehicles (1999/62/EC). It concentrates on external costs caused by road transport in the form of air pollution, noise and congestion.
This question was addressed by the following speakers:
• Szabolcs Schmidt, Head of unit DG TREN, European Commission (tbc)
• Emanuel Šíp, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic
• Said El-Khadraoui MEP, Eurovignette rapporteur (tbc)
• Michael Nielsen, General Delegate of International Road Transport Union Permanent Delegation to the EU
